Station 2: Alphabet Lines
- Skill/Content and Objective: S.O.L 4.10 - Students will manipulate and explain the difference between parallel and perpendicular lines.
- Materials: Geoboards (one for each person), rubber bands, dot paper.
- Description of Station: This station will have students working with geoboards and rubber bands to construct the alphabet to record and label on dot paper the perpendicular and parallel lines that they find within the letters of the alphabet.
- Ideas for Differentiation: Students may also look for any intersecting lines as well. You could also have the students color code each of the different lines (blue for perpendicular, red for intersecting) and have them tell their partners eachother why it is parallel/perpendicular.
- Formative Assessment: Have the students turn in the "I Can" list and the dot paper to you so you can see if they have mastered the material. Teachers can have an Exit Slip, where the students must write down a letter with a parallel line and label it and do the same with a letter with a perpendicular line.
